Ohmi Beef Kyoto
Yakiniku Ponto Cho Teppai – Ohmi Beef Kyoto is One of the Top 3 Wagyu Beef In Japan. I guess one of the best romantic getaway with your loved one should be in Kyoto. The place is quite and peaceful, definitely will allow you to open your heart to talk about anything after you see how beautiful the moon shines above you. After the not-so busy day we had, we walk around pontocho Dori, to look for Yakiniku “Ponto-Cho Teppai” where we saw the day before. Pontocho is one of Kyoto’s most spirited and memorable neighborhoods. A narrow street straddling the Kamogawa River, is Kyoto’s busiest nightlife spot. We took a taxi from our hotel and the taxi had to stopped nearby, cos they can’t enter that small alley. So we had to walk and ask around. After few minutes of walking we finally see Restaurant Yakiniku Ponto Cho Teppai.
This restaurant has private rooms available, and we were seated at the bar (6 seats only) which is cool. I think a lot of times, we sat at the counter bar in Japan. What’s even cooler, most of the restaurant we visited are non-smoking area. I love that! I feel like I’m living in a smoking free zone world.
This appetizer called Tsukidashi costs ¥500 per person (= RM15, Euro3.64, USD4.9). That is squid salad. The squid is fresh and easy to chew. That looking like butter thingy is not butter but it’s a fat to use for Yakiniku grill beef.
Yaki Yasai Roasted vegetables costs ¥580 (= RM18.21, Euro4.23, USD5.71), mixture of mushroom, chili, corn, apple, eggplant & pumpkin if i’m not mistaken.
Prime Salted Tongue ¥2480 (= RM77, Euro18.09, USD24.45). After I tried beef tongue in Gyukingu Kota Damansara, I now can accept the taste and like it more.
Here comes our 180g Prime beef assortment of 3 kinds ¥3500 (=RM109.83, Euro 25.53, USD34.51) all the beef served here is Ohmi beef. We grilled the chilis too, eat together with the beef.
Apparently 180g of beef is not enough so we ordered few other beef and side dishes. They tastes so good that you can’t stop eating. The japanese couple beside us saw that we’re enjoying with the food they decided to order too. Below photo is 80g Kurashita – Prime Sirloin. ¥1880 (= RM59, Euro13.71, USD18.53)
This is 80g Tatekanoko – Prime Ribs. Same price as Kurashita. The special sauce gave a strong flavor. The amount of sauce was just nice.
Beef stomach/intestine is considered as RARE part to me. I cannot stand the strong smell, but if you’re adventurous enough this is something you can try and see if you can fit the challenge. I surrender, I dare not to try this again. We ordered other side dishes like Spicy Fish Innards and Tofu with Kimuchi.
I love the Yakiniku experience. Now I understand why people love Kyoto more than Osaka. Osaka is a busy city unlike Kyoto, quite and peaceful full with cultural heritage. Anywhere in Japan is safe, don’t have to worry about snatch theft, robbers etc (touch-wood). Nice restaurants like this can be found at the hidden place like the narrow street here in Pontocho.
Minimum spending per person: 5000¥en w/o drinks.
